Hello Everyone, My name is Gurvir Singh and I'm an aspiring screenwriter. I am new to the industry but I have been studying to become a screenwriter for close to 2 years. I hope to move out to LA sometime soon and begin the transition into a full-time screenwriter. I am currently finishing off the treatment for a TV pilot that I have been working on in the last year. Here is the synopsis: The Triad Follows the lives of two gangs that are operating in San Francisco's Chinatown and the struggle for power over the streets of San Francisco and its underworld. Caught in the middle is 22 year old Tommy Zhang. Home on college break and taking care of his grandmother's restaurant, he is held hostage by the Hop Sing Tong who are seeking to collect a loan that his grandmother took out. Left with no alternative to pay back the debt, he is forced to go undercover and spy on the Hop Sing Tong's rival gang, the Wah Ching or face the death of his family. I hope to build my connections and make new friends in the struggle that is this industry. Please do not hesitate to add me or begin a conversation.
Alle, thank for reply and I will do my best to answer all the questions. 1) I've been mostly studying through various books on screen-writing and working for a small production company down town. The transition to a full time screenwriter will be after graduating from school next year. It isn't meant to apply that after I move to LA, I'm instantly going to get a job. I know the process of writing specs, getting an agent. and then ultimately pitching will be difficult. 2) I'm looking for a change of pace from the film scene in Toronto. That isn't to say that there aren't opportunities available here, but that there is a huge difference between living in Toronto and Hollywood. 3) Again, change of scenery. 4) I'm not starting school until next week so the process of building contacts in LA will come while I finish my scripts and I am nearing graduation. The treatment for the TV Pilot will be the map for when I finish the first episode. It will also map out how I write each season and where I attend to take the script. It isn't meant to be a pitch piece as much as a mini bible for myself. The bible of the my TV Show will not be created until I have a better understanding of where I attend the first few episodes to go. Do I know know what the major plot points of each season will be? Yes, but Its the episodes in-between those major plot points that I need to map out. Again, thank you for the questions.
Sorry for the late reply, eastern time zone so I was asleep. Its a 1 year screen writing course in Toronto. Too many individuals believe they will make it big by just moving to Hollywood and really don't have a plan of how to achieve these goals. I won't be making that transition until I lay everything out and have a strategy to pursue my goals.
Welcome, Gurvir!
