When an oil refinery engineer investigating sabotage is executed on a riverbank, a disgraced inspector turned shuttle driver risks everything to stop a conspiracy threatening the city that cast him aside.
SYNOPSIS:
Oil refinery inspector Connor returns to his hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick, for the first time in a year, hoping to reconnect with his ten-year-old daughter, Marlie, while a catastrophic explosion and a controversial overturned murder conviction throw the city into turmoil. Once arrested himself and still carrying the stigma of his past, Connor keeps his distance to protect Marlie from the consequences of his reputation. At the same time, the refinery where he once worked is under intense pressure from looming corporate bids, unexplained safety failures, and mounting labour shortages. When an unstable shuttle driver is fired, Connor reluctantly agrees to replace him for a week, placing himself back inside the refinery and among the people who never forgot his mistakes.
As Connor drives workers across the sprawling refinery, his unmatched instincts for mechanical integrity uncover a pattern of suspicious equipment failures that point to deliberate sabotage rather than simple negligence. His investigation pulls him into conflict with refinery management, old friends, and powerful interests determined to manipulate the refinery's sale while exploiting the recent Tidewell scandal. At the same time, Connor risks everything to secretly rebuild a relationship with Marlie, forcing him to confront the shame and anger that drove him away years earlier. The closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous his position becomes, until the conspiracy threatens not only the refinery but the lives of everyone working inside it.
Connor ultimately exposes the sabotage before it can trigger a catastrophic industrial disaster, revealing that the attacks were orchestrated to influence the refinery's future and profit from its collapse. In doing so, he redeems the reputation that has haunted him for a decade and proves that his greatest strength has never been his technical brilliance, but his unwavering prudence and willingness to act when everyone else looks away. By saving countless lives and finally confronting his past, Connor earns a chance to rebuild his relationship with Marlie and reclaim his place in the community, transforming a disgraced outsider into the man his daughter can finally be proud to call her father.
