A slippery Adman is desperate for his launch of a new fresh Dog Food to succeed. But when the dogs who eat it start to go mad and viciously attack their owners, he must decide whether he's on the side of money or the truth.
SYNOPSIS:
Tom Jarrow, 35, is the archetypal ad-man, funny and sharp, but slippery as hell. He has bet the future of his new agency on the success of a commercial for a new kind of Fresh dog food.
His client is the scarily forbidding Laurence Tenzer, 53, owner of the Wagtail dog food company, based in a remote town in the Scottish Highlands. Tenzer too, has his whole future riding on this launch. Fair to say they'll both just about do anything to see it succeed.
After the successful pitch meeting for the new commercial, Tom accidentally knocks down a stray dog, which takes him to the surgery of the local veterinarian, Stella Snowden, 28.
Stella is the opposite of Tom in every way, upstanding, adventurous (parachutes off mountains for fun) sceptical of 'advertising' in general and Tom in particular. But in their early sparring we can sense a hint of a spark.
The dog food is launched, but the initial success is clouded by an outbreak of deadly dog attacks, at first just a few, then more.
Tom and Tenzer scramble to keep the attacks from damaging the launch, as Stella begins to suspect that the food might actually be causing them in some way.
As the evidence mounts against the food, Tom is forced to decide which side he is on, at first disastrously doubling down on the launch with a clever promotion that threatens to massively increase the sales. (And potentially the number of mad dogs) This involves Tenzer tasting the food at a press conference to show it's safe.
Tom has saved the launch but lost any hope he had of a relationship with Stella.
Later, Tom overhears a clue to what might be causing the madness...Tenzer owns the the whole supply chain including the abattoir and the cows....and reluctantly passes this on to Stella.
Stella persuades Tom to investigate the abattoir late at night, and they discover that the cows being slaughtered for the dog food are all sick. This is the link.
Tom and Stella bring one of the sick cows into the board meeting that is signing off the national rollout of the food, sabotaging it completely, and ending Tom and Tenzer's businesses at a stroke.
Tom and Stella become leading parts of the operation to round up all of the affected dogs and corral them in pens at the factory.
Calm descends as the dogs are safely locked up, Tom and Stella head for a meal together that may decide whether they have any future together...meanwhile Tenzer (who has gone mad himself after eating the food) enters the dog compound and releases all the mad dogs in one devastating murderous tide.
Chaos ensues, and all looks lost.
Tom and Stella try to get out of town in Stella's jeep, which attracts the pack of mad dogs.
They are pursued out of town and up a mountain trail, and in a last throw of the dice drive the jeep off a huge cliff and leap out using one of Stella's parachutes.
The dogs pursue them over the cliff and fall to their deaths.
At the end, an ironic reminder of the slogan Tom coined for the launch 'Dogs will go nuts for it!'
