HEAD GIRL
By Jon Platt

GENRE: Thriller / Suspense, Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

In 2093, a young schoolgirl is on the run from a violent criminal gang led by a vicious female mobster. In a world where all technology is illegal, the chance discovery of a cryogenically frozen head offers the girl the long-lost knowledge that could turn the tables and let her survive .

SYNOPSIS:

Ellie, 15, is on the run.

When we meet her she is disguising herself to join a new school in a new town and blend in to disappear.

As we explore her small-town surroundings we see that this is a world without technology, where even the school bus is horse drawn. We are in 2093.

Ellie struggles to fit in to her strict new surroundings, made worse when she violently intervenes to save a boy Red, 16, from bullies.

Ellie and Red form a bond, and whilst exploring the woods discover a long-lost cryogenics facility, from where Ellie liberates a human head.

Deciding to re-animate the head, Ellie now has a reluctant new ally Sullivan, 42, who is seeking first of all a new body, and later to find his daughter, (who would be 78).

Sullivan and Red help Ellie to avoid being thrown out of school through various close calls, and Red demands to know who Ellie really is.

Ellie’s back story reveals that she was kidnapped eight years earlier by a violent gang led by ‘Mother’, 66, a violent and heartless mobster. She later escapes with Mother’s money and has been running ever since.

(In a parallel B story we are introduced to Mother and see her closing in on Ellie.)

Sullivan seeks to make Ellie and Red popular at school by introducing them to a version of Instagram.

This works so well that Ellie and Red become Head Girl and Head Boy, their triumph ruined by the arrival of Mother who exposes Ellie’s real identity in front of the whole school.

Ellie escapes, but Mother takes Sullivan with her, having realised that he holds the key to being able to use a military drone they have stolen.

Ellie pursues Mother all the way to Mother’s ranch lair ‘Motherland’.

She eventually prevails when Sullivan programmes the drone to turn on the gang, and Ellie faces down Mother in a deadly shootout.

In the aftermath Sullivan asks to be allowed to die peacefully, and Ellie becomes truly herself, with a new job driving the horses on the school bus.
