From Shakespeare to OUTLANDER to DOWNTON ABBEY , Great Britain is the world’s leader of period dramas. William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Richard III, Henry VIII, Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth I, Queen Anne, Queen Victoria, Elizabeth II: how often have their stories been dramatized? In 2017, three different projects chronicled Winston Churchill’s saga––THE CROWN, CHURCHILL, and DARKEST HOUR. By comparison, there has only been one movie of substance on Abraham Lincoln in the past 30 years. More of America’s stories must be told.
I’m Ryan Vallo, writer, actor, historian, and alumnus of the music theatre programs at Baldwin Wallace University and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. As my work in the industry focuses on period films and TV dramas, I'm also a graduate of the American history masters program at the University of Edinburgh (...ironic yes, "American" history in Britain).
You need a specialist in period dramas––that's me!
