I was hoping to get on that production as well but I found out that they are mainly filming on a soundstage vs locations.

A friend of mine from way back in Jr. High is a writer/actor/producer. He moved back to OK several years ago and was working on some Lifetime projects filming in OK. He asked if I could help him find some locations...and the rest as they say "is history". I enjoyed the work and the producers liked the locations I found. They hired me for their next movie, and a connection I made from those movies hired me as Locations Coordinator for an Indie Film, "The Line" which prepped me on "next level" activities like understanding base camp requirements, acquiring permits, creating maps, etc.
I started researching any and all opportunities around Oklahoma City including various industry events. I saw a notice about The OK Film & Music Office hosting a seminar about Film opps in OK and how they were supporting it at one of our VoTechs. I quickly mocked up some business cards and printed them at Office Depot as the seminar was that afternoon. I had already been in contact with the liaison from the film office while working on the Lifetime movies so I stuck around after the seminar and introduced myself to him. I also introduced myself to a make-up artist that was there and a few other people-literally 2-3 minute conversations.
A few weeks later, I received a call from a producer out of New Mexico who needed locations for a 9-8-8 commercial. I dropped by one of the locations to give something to him but he was speaking to the director. I saw a woman standing off to the side and introduced myself. She ended up being the production designer. Literally another 2-minute conversation. I introduced myself, handed her my card, and told her references are appreciated. 4 weeks later I receive a text from her that the movie she was working on needed a Locations Manager. The producer phoned me, hired me and that was my first movie as a Locations Manager. It was much more physical than I thought it would be. We had some ambitious locations including several where we had to hike up mountains and cliffs (yes, we have those in Oklahoma : ) ). I actually fell off a boulder the first week of pre-production and cracked my ribs. As this was my "big break" I didn't want anyone to know how much pain I was actually in and fought through it. It was an amazing experience with an incredible crew.
Sorry this was so long. In a nutshell, a little luck, a little "who I knew", and a little extra effort on my part.
