BLINDERS KEEPERS
By John Rachel

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE: In this dark comedy, a young man who escapes his hopelessly hayseed home town in Missouri is mistakenly labeled a terrorist and must survive a manhunt by government security agencies, while the President of an America in chaos and collapse perpetrates an end-of-the-world hoax, attempting to reclaim control and get himself re-elected.

SYNOPSIS:

In his State of the Union address, to the thunderous approval of the VIPs attending the event, the President acknowledges that the country is a mess. This is hardly news, as America is beset with economic collapse, rioting, looting, and total chaos. 23-year-old Noah Tass, stuck for his entire life in Pulnick, MO, the hayseed capital of the Bible Belt, has his own problems. He has no future, his friends are losers, his job is a dead end, his mother is crazy, his sister a meth head stripper, and his father abandoned him and his family 17 years before. He decides to get out of town, strike out into the world, and kick start his life. During a bathroom break on the first leg of his journey, the bus he's taking to Indianapolis blows up. Noah is wrongly identified as the perpetrator, labeled a terrorist, and goes underground while agents of the ATF, FBI, and NSA are in hot pursuit. In some very strange company, he scurries to Area 51, and the nuclear ICBM silos of North Dakota. Then while working as a volunteer at Habitat For Humanity in Tuscaloosa, AL, he comes under the protection of an underground organization known as IOU, an offshoot of Anonymous and OWS. His next hideaway is None of Your Beeswax honey farm, a front for a cyberterrorism organization, in Shreveport, LA. The country continues to unravel. People are selling their children, their internal organs, inflation has put a loaf of Wonder Bread at $45. The President is desperate to regain some credibility and control. He is up for re-election but the nation increasingly regards him and his administration as irrelevant. His core advisors concoct a plan. They agree on an end-of-the-world hoax, an asteroid which allegedly will obliterate the planet, the cataclysmic event convincingly created in a film studio. The whole drama will be broadcast to the world, climaxing with America saving the planet by launching military missiles carrying gigantic hydrogen bombs to destroy the asteroid. Noah meanwhile shuttles from one safe area to the next __ from Los Angeles to the Burning Man Festival in Nevada, from Reno to Detroit to rural Pennsylvania. However, it becomes apparent that he is leaving in his wake a trail of carnage. While he barely makes his escape, all of his new underground friends are being arrested and killed. Finally, as the asteroid approaches, Noah finds himself in a losing battle. He is captured and taken to a secure enclave in Washington DC, where the President and his staff sit and watch America "save the planet from total destruction" on a huge flat panel screen, as the stunningly realistic video is broadcast to the world. In the very moment all of humankind confronts the prospect of complete annihilation, Noah comes face-to-face with the father who abandoned him 18 years ago, the very man who has murdered all his new underground friends and orchestrated his terrifying manhunt.
