Gwen Roberts

Hi there! I'm Gwen Roberts, recent graduate of New College of Florida. Although my Bachelor's degree is in Sociology, my passions lie with studying performing arts, music, and culture more broadly, from a variety of perspectives.

In particular, I am quite interested in how cultural diversity has shaped media, and the role of art in shaping society and politics throughout history. My senior thesis project, "Making Waves: Blackness and Transnational Racialized Self-Fashioning by South Korean Hip-Hop Artists", is one such example of how art and performance are cultural centerpieces, influenced heavily by the sociopolitical perspectives of their creators. This passion has also manifested in my role as lead researcher and production assistant for Sutchilee Productions, in upcoming documentary projects that focus on how globalization has affected Korean popular music.

I also greatly enjoy being involved in the production of art and music. I've pursued creative ventures my entire life, in the areas of dance, visual arts, music, creative writing, and theatre, both as part of my academics and for my own personal gratification. I am a fan of all kinds of media and regularly seek to expand my horizons, by honing my own skills and appreciating the skills of others through the art they produce.
