"Divorce Towne" (A Stage Play)

Stages of a Breakup: CONFLICT-DENIAL-RESOLUTION-ACCEPTANCE

NICK and TRACEY TOWNES are about to sign their divorce papers after twenty-four years of being together. They are in the now empty living room, save for a lone sofa/couch. The papers are on the coffee table for them to sign. Before they sign, though and permanently dissolve their union, the two put it out in the open about what went wrong with their marriage. Aided by copious amounts of vodka, Nick and Tracey reminisce about their challenges, both before and during their ill-fated union.

Enter KEVIN, aka THE MAILMAN. He’s Vicky’s new paramour. And he just happens to be delivering mail on their block at the time this is taking place. Vicky, who’s gone to her car after a slight tiff with Tracey, ‘invites’ Kevin into the soon-to-be former couple’s house to witness the proceedings. Kevin becomes an unlikely intermediary/go between/Greek chorus/witness to the marital uncoupling via memories and musings. That is, when he’s awake…

“Divorce Towne” is a humor-infused airing out of unresolved feelings and issues. It’s about could’ve, should’ve and would’ve mixed with equal parts of remember when. It’s about reasons why and reasons why not as the final dissolution of a marriage takes place in living color/real time.
