In 1980s small-town New Mexico, a group of high school metalheads ditch the biggest rivalry football game of the year for a wild night across the border in Juarez, Mexico. Armed with bad advice, a groovy van, and no clue, their first taste of freedom quickly turns into a series of misadventures involving border patrol, unattainable babes, questionable nudie bars, and a looming street brawl, leaving them with a night they’ll only half-remember… yet never forget.
SYNOPSIS:
Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1986 New Mexico, One Night in Wazoo is a hilarious, character-driven, and deeply nostalgic coming-of-age comedy that follows seven small-town teens as they skip the biggest football game of the year and head south of the border for their first taste of real freedom.
The story centers on Tommy, a sweet-natured metalhead desperate to shed his “nice guy” image and prove to himself—and others—that he’s got what it takes to live loud. Alongside his best friend Joe Mike and a dreadfully perfect misfit crew of hormonal high schoolers, Tommy embarks on a booze-fueled, confidence-testing road trip to Juárez, Mexico. What should’ve been a wild, no-parents party night quickly unravels into a series of escalating misadventures involving border patrol detainment, awkward hookups, seedy bars, misread signals, and a groovy van named Good Times.
One Night in Wazoo blends the spirit of 80s youth rebellion with a smart, contemporary perspective. It taps into the universal moment every teenager faces: that first brush with adulthood where everything is equal parts terrifying and thrilling. With whip-smart dialogue, laugh-out-loud set pieces, and a surprisingly heartfelt emotional arc, this is the kind of film that delivers big laughs while leaving a lasting impression.
