CHASING TRUTHS

CHASING TRUTHS
By Dennis Manning

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

After a near-fatal car accident, a gay man in his 60s journeys through surreal memories and encounters with significant
figures from his past - including his strict gym teacher, artistic masterpieces, and lost loved ones - as he comes to
terms with his lifelong struggle for acceptance and self-discovery.

SYNOPSIS:

The story follows Dennis Manning, who experiences a series of memory fragments and surreal encounters while in a

critical state after a car accident. Through these visions, we explore his life journey as a gay man who struggled with

acceptance, particularly in his Catholic upbringing. The narrative weaves through various periods of his life - from

his childhood desire for an EZ Bake Oven (receiving weights instead), his time in Catholic school, his experiences in

the seminary, and his adult relationships.

Key recurring characters include Mr. McKay (his former gym teacher who secretly looked out for him), his brother Big

Doug, his mother, and his best friend Connie (who ultimately rejects him when he comes out). The story culminates after

Dennis survives the car accident that killed his friends Ronnie and Claudio, where he passes on his written memoir

"Chasing Truths" to his niece Dawn before passing away. The screenplay ends with a surreal sequence where Dennis,

reunited with Ronnie and Claudio, chooses Door #2 in a metaphysical setting, suggesting a peaceful acceptance of his

complete self and his journey.

The story is fundamentally about seeking permission to be oneself and finding peace with one's identity, told through a

mix of memory, dream sequences, and reality.
