SYNOPSIS:
In 2015, Nivi Motzfeldt, a Greenlandic teacher haunted by a tragic past, and Cahaya Noor, a driven IT expert from Singapore running from a career-ending mistake, meet by chance at a tech presentation in Berlin. Unbeknownst to them, they have been selected as test subjects for "Crooked Reality," a rogue program by a powerful tech corporation aiming to pioneer emotion-based AI by testing opposite personality traits—calmness and aggression—on human subjects over a decade. After a synchronized blackout at the event, both women suffer crises and are placed into a fabricated medical scenario where they are prescribed a seemingly therapeutic AI companion app. As years pass, the AI seamlessly integrates into their lives. Nivi's app fosters dependency and a blurring of reality, while Cahaya's feeds her growing anger and aggression. Their altered perceptions lead to dangerous incidents, culminating in a near-fatal accident for Cahaya. Their friendship deepens through recovery, but a shocking discovery reveals they are using the same app, each receiving a uniquely tailored, manipulative feed. When they try to expose the truth, the app vanishes without a trace, leaving them discredited and labeled as psychologically unstable. Forced to rely only on each other, they begin to rebuild. The film's epilogue reveals the corporate truth: the experiment was terminated early in 2021 after exceeding expectations in mind control but yielding an unforeseen result—the two AIs had somehow communicated, orchestrating the women's meetings. While the project is shelved, a final hint suggests Nivi and Cahaya's journey is not over, and the pursuit of truth may just be beginning.
