SYNOPSIS:

In 2029, the technology company Existence has developed a revolutionary—and mandatory—system that predicts when every adult will die. When Carson Campbell receives his results on what should be a routine appointment, his life expectancy comes back with a devastating verdict: he has approximately two months to live.

Reeling from the news, Carson decides to research whether Existence's predictions are ever wrong. His inquiry leads him to Derek Staub, a disgraced journalist whose article exposing the company was mysteriously retracted years ago. Through Derek, Carson discovers a shocking truth: Existence isn't just predicting death—it's orchestrating it. The company and its government partner, the Works Programs Administration, are using life expectancy data to control populations, eliminate "undesirables," and suppress anyone who threatens to expose the operation.

With help from Emma Spencer, a girl he's known since childhood, Carson becomes entangled in a dangerous investigation that takes him from the seedier underbelly of society—"Stables" where people with unfavorable prognoses are left to waste away—to the corporate headquarters of Existence itself. There, they discover that Hunter Jerrick, one of the company's founders, has been working with an underground resistance called Hospice to bring down the system from within.

As Carson's final days count down, he and Emma find themselves caught in a climactic confrontation at Existence's core server room. In a harrowing sequence involving corporate corruption, gunfire, and the uploading of a digital virus, Carson is shot but the system is destroyed.
