Documentary by Valentijn Studios Producer/director When Teatro Camões, home of the Portuguese National Ballet, closed due to COVID-19, all dancers were confined to the limited spaces of their homes. With their usual physical routines interrupted, the only vast space left was that of the mind. These uncertain times, uneasily called our ‘new normal’, brought not only physical restrictions but also mental thresholds the dancers had to confront. Pushing through these emotional and physical constraints, they worked to keep both body and mind in shape, holding on to the hope of returning to the stage. BOW explores how defeat and triumph can intertwine and coexist.
