A pastor with a mental history believes an 18th Century hangman’s soul is about to emerge from an old hanging tree and he is given 48 hours to prove this to his brother or be committed to a mental institution.

SYNOPSIS:

After finding a letter written by a dead 18th Century Satanist, a troubled Pastor believes that the Satanist’s soul is trapped inside an 18th Century hanging tree and that within 48 hours it will be set free and will kill thousands of innocent people in retaliation for being condemned to the tree. The Pastor has had a nervous breakdown and been committed for observation earlier in his life. His brother now fears that the Pastor is losing his grip on reality again and is on the verge of having him committed but has decided to give him the chance to prove his sanity and so he insists that he is going with him to find the hanging tree and to witness him stopping the Satanist, and so the Pastor, his brother, a guide and a botanist all set off to find the tree.

In the forest things become eerie when we learn that two teenagers were found hung there less than a week ago. With the Pastor becoming highly neurotic and the sound of constant crying resonating from the trees the Pastor’s brother now begins to act strangely out of character. As they press deeper into the forest each of them is not sure what is real, each is terrified of the other and each is seeing things that the others don’t see. But one of them is already possessed by the Satanist and as they arrive at the hanging tree the Pastor realizes that the Satanist had set an elaborate trap for him all along and it’s him that the Satanist must possess to live for eternity. However, what the Satanist doesn’t know is that the Pastor has in turn set a trap for him and whether he lives or dies depends on the Pastor’s mental health, the trees and…the dearly departed.
