SYNOPSIS:
When TERRELL, a socially awkward cousin, shows up to a family game night on Chicago’s South Side, he’s just hoping to make it through without embarrassing himself. But after he unknowingly reneges in a heated game of Spades, he’s clowned, cursed out, and kicked off the table — a violation of the house’s most sacred rule. Exiled to the back porch, Terrell bonds with SAMUEL, a deadpan anime-obsessed kid who teaches him to see Spades like Yu-Gi-Oh! Terrell returns to the table transformed — strategic, confident, and just high enough to be funny. As he plays his way back into the group’s respect, a Dragon Ball Z joke sparks a room-wide explosion of laughter and a full-blown anime debate, proving Terrell was never too weird — just waiting for the right table. With humor, heart, and absurdity, Deuces Wild captures how Black families play, roast, bond, and survive — all through the lens of a single card game.
