THE LIFE OF TIMON OF ATHENS
By Scott Andrew Hutchins

GENRE: Drama, Experimental, Independent
LOGLINE: Shakespeare's tragic tale of a generous soul turned misanthropic when he is betrayed, presented with the original text in a quasi-modern fashion somewhere between Luhrmann and Taymor.

SYNOPSIS:

Recent college graduate Timon loves to use the money he inherited from his deceased parents to give gifts to his friends, in particular, Ventidia, Lucullus, Lucius, and Sempronia, as well as some artists who like to hang about him. His long-time playfellow and steward, Flavia, and philosophy professor, Apemantus, try unsuccessfully to get him to listen to them about his funds or his fruitless pining for tough-minded Ventidia, for whom he has recently paid bail. Timon soon runs out of money, and when his friends refuse to give him anything, Timon throws rocks and steaming water at them and starts living in a cave in the wilderness. Timon's soldier friend, Alcibiades, goes up against the city on Timon's behalf, but he's already embroiled in defending one of his troops, who has killed someone in a bar fight.
