Movie maker located in Western Texas area . New technology, i.e. 8k hi-resolution with 16.5+ stops of dynamic range digital (Dragon Weapon 8k Sensor Red Digital Cinema) cameras, means I can replace lack of funding with time. ----------
Though I'd rather not, I can shoot a movie with skeleton crew by making creative shot selections, writing to minimize production costs and replacing some crew with multi-job personel + technology. The cost-effective digital technology also means if necessary I can replace established actors as a cost-cutting choice with newly minted ones, 'cause even if you have to shoot a scene numerous times to get it right, (often the case with new actors who at some point can give a good performance but may not be able to replicate the same level of performance) while the cost of digital storage and media is minimal compared to film. And unlike film, it's erasable and reusable. ----------
We live in a great time to be making movies. We have the ability to shoot on High end affordable camera equipment and then finish a movie in our spare-room studio using a computer and apps like Adobe CC products such as Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects and Speedgrade in concert with Redcine X Pro. ----------
Finishing in 4k (while archiving in 8k for the future) gives a movie-maker of today a leg up on the competition, content being equal. Movie theaters are installing 4k projectors at a fast rate. ----------
Netflix, Google, Amazon... real options for distribution of 4k through their streaming services. Of course, the 2k current distribution model is still open if a film fits that model and the price is right. ----------
But in today's world, distribution limitation is no longer the boot on the throat of the Independent movie-maker.
