“PARADJANOV: THE LAST COLLAGE”
By Jeani DiCarlo

GENRE: Biography
LOGLINE: “Sergei Paradjanov is one of the high priests in the temple of cinema.” —Jean-Luc Goddard

SYNOPSIS:

"The Last Collage" is the first Franco-Armenian co-production with the participation of the French Ministry of Culture, the CMC, and the National Film Archives of Armenia. This solid documentary tells the story of one of the most amazing avant-garde film directors and visual artists of the 20th century, Sergei Paradjanov. The film uses Paradjanov’s work as a vehicle to explore the explosive life of this accomplished filmmaker and visual artist. It chronicles Paradjanov’s life, from his revolutionary filmmaking in the Ukraine, to his controversial bi-sexuality, to the prisons of Siberia. It is masterfully narrated in French with English subtitles. Paradjanov’s films are not mere stories; they are collages of rich ethnic traditions, conveyed in a most poetic and powerful cinematic language. The film was shot on location, in places where Paradjanov's artistic sensibility best expressed itself. It includes interviews with greats such as Jean-Luc Goddard and Tonnino Guerra, Robert Oussein, Marina Vladi, and others.
