By Josephine Croft

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

When a shy and easily manipulated human rights lawyer is recruited as a spy by the oppressive government, she must now either save herself, or save her country.

SYNOPSIS:

Set in Apartheid torn 1980's South Africa, VANESSA BRERETON, a softly spoken, shy Lawyer with a disability, meets KARL EDWARDS, a charming lieutenant in the Security police. Young and insecure, and convinced of the looming threat of communism, she is easily manipulated into both an affair and a life of spying with Karl as her handler. On one hand, she rescues those arrested only for the colour of their skin, on the other she reports on the 'white left', the communists working to destroy apartheid. However her schizophrenic existence begins to eat away at her and after a bomb kills her colleagues, she starts to see through the lies and propaganda. Scared for her own life, and facing her immoral behaviour, she leaves the life of spying. Nelson Mandela is released, apartheid ends and Vanessa moves away to England. Years later she publicly admits her best kept secret and faces the reality of what she did.
