LOGLINE:

In the wake of Stonewall, Yale professor John “Jeb” Boswell races against time and his own mortality to unearth the buried truths of queer history, igniting a struggle for truth and acceptance that will outlive him.

SYNOPSIS:

John Boswell was the embodiment of a modern scholarly hero. A prodigious polymath fluent in seventeen ancient and modern languages, Boswell became a Yale professor by the age of thirty and gained unprecedented access to the Vatican Secret Archives. From this treasure trove of restricted manuscripts, he crafted four award-winning books, cementing his reputation as a world-renowned expert in medieval history and linguistics.

Boswell’s brilliance extended beyond academia. As an openly gay man in a time of widespread intolerance, he challenged societal norms with unapologetic authenticity. JEB tells the inspiring and poignant story of Boswell’s quest to uncover hidden truths within the historical record, reshaping our understanding of the past to influence the present.

At the heart of the film is Boswell’s determined race against time to complete his groundbreaking final book, Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe, which profoundly impacted the marriage equality movement. All the while, he battled the debilitating effects of AIDS in private, leaving behind a legacy of courage, intellect, and transformative change.
