SYNOPSIS:
In 1866 Texas was under the control of Union laws as the reconstruction period swept through the South. The story opens in 1879 with guns blazing in a violent shootout. Voice-over from an aged woman, Older Abigail Price, speaks the lords prayer as she recalls this fateful day. We are soon led to believe that our leading man, Will Reardon, has been shot and killed outside of an abandoned house. We watch as Will struggles for breath as we bleed into the past where Older Abigail tells us the story about the love of her life. Following the Civil War in 1866, Will Reardon and his father, a former tracker for the Confederate Army, moved to Texas. Though only 12 years old at the time, Will followed his father's lead and packed the violence from the war in a deep dark place, hoping to forget. Now, able to live a peaceful existence in Kimball, Texas, it isn't long before the youthful Will has a young girl named Abigail catch his eye. As the years pass, Will and Abigail grow closer. Will proposes marriage in 1876, but Abigail refuses since she must go away for a time. While she is away, Will meets another and marries. The two give birth to a son in 1877. Abigail returns to a volatile Kimball, Texas in 1879. Renegades are riding the Texas plains burning farms and looting homes. When Will sees her for the first time in three years, all the intimate feelings come rushing back. Unable to resist each other, Will and Abigail share a night of passion. That night, Will rides home laden with guilt. Arriving home, he is greeted by a nightmare. His two year old son swings by the neck from a tree just outside his house and his wife lay dead inside. All of the pain that Will has packed away for so many years rushes to the surface and sends Will on journey of reckoning and vengeance.
