A battle-scarred ex-commander is forced out of exile to protect humanity’s most ambitious mission to the stars. But to save the future, John Koenig must first overcome the ghosts of his past, a corrupt political machine, and the fractured bond with the son following in his footsteps.
SYNOPSIS:
In 2099, former space commander John Koenig lives in self-imposed exile on his aging father's Idaho ranch, haunted by traumatic memories of a disastrous military mission that ended in a deadly crash deep in the Amazon. Struggling with insomnia and the emotional scars of war, John has turned his back on the Global Space Agency after resigning under controversial circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Agency prepares its most ambitious mission yet: the launch of the interstellar spacecraft Daedalus. As the crew is introduced to the world, investigative journalist Monica Harper begins probing suspicious activity surrounding the Agency, including a mysterious lockdown at Moonbase Alpha and possible financial corruption. Her search for answers leads her to Jason Koenig, John's estranged son and a member of the mission's backup crew.
Elsewhere, powerful Agency administrator Gerald Simmonds meets with Dr. Helena Russell after her groundbreaking research in nanotechnology and he abruptly orders her to travel to Alpha following an unexplained incident.
The episode ends with a bang — literally — when a coerced civilian plants a bomb at a bar frequented by the Daedalus crew, destroying it in a massive explosion.
