A legendary genie hunter embarks on one final hunt to resurrect his lost love—only to confront the moral cost of the system he helped build.
SYNOPSIS:
The Genie Hunter
by J.R. Kinnard
Legendary genie hunter HARRY “LEGS” LEGACY built his fortune raiding Djinn realms and binding powerful genies to magical talismans—artifacts that allow hunters to enter those realms and harness Djinn power to make wishes possible. For years, Harry and his wife, MATTIE STOUFFER, used wishes to build a perfect life together, selling the rest to the highest bidder.
During a catastrophic raid in the realm of the Djinn general BELLATOR, Harry comes within reach of the talisman of the Djinn king BOSTAPH, the only being powerful enough to grant resurrection. But as Bellator closes in, Mattie sacrifices herself to save him, vanishing in flames. Harry survives—but spends decades in isolation, forever young through the power of wishes, yet withered by grief.
Years later, the discovery of a powerful Djinn talisman draws Harry back into the world he abandoned. Recruited to lead an expedition into the Djinn realms, he joins forces with DR. MIRA CHEN, a diplomatic expert, and NADIA VALE, an advocate determined to challenge the system itself. The team also includes his mentor OLD LUKE, a formidable recruit known as TINY, a cunning half-Djinn thief called SNITCH, and several wealthy benefactors.
Harry returns on one condition: payment in the form of a single wish—one he intends to use to find Bostaph and resurrect Mattie.
Their first target is VIRAGO, a Djinn who manipulates illusion and desire. She confronts Harry with visions of Mattie, exposing how deeply his grief still controls him. As Virago grants wishes to the benefactors, a mysterious financier named D’AGOSTINO manipulates events to seize control of her talisman. When he attempts to dominate her, she retaliates with catastrophic force, killing him and flooding her realm. The expedition narrowly escapes.
But D’Agostino soon reappears within the group—unrecognized—revealing a far more sinister power at work.
The expedition enters BELLATOR’S REALM, where the Djinn subjects them to brutal trials designed to expose weakness and moral failure. During one test, Harry chooses to sacrifice Vale to secure his path forward to Bostaph—only to discover her death was an illusion. The trial reveals the truth he refuses to face: his obsession is turning him into the very tyrant Bellator accuses him of being.
Meanwhile, D’Agostino reveals himself as a Hybrid—born of both human and Djinn blood—who plans to seize the talismans and rule the system himself. Harry survives Bellator’s realm and secures Bostaph’s talisman, but his certainty fractures. For the first time, he sees the talismans not as tools of survival, but as instruments of domination.
The expedition reaches BOSTAPH’S REALM, where D’Agostino consolidates Djinn power by drawing talismans from across the realms. Harry fights to reclaim them, but each talisman confronts him with the suffering he has caused, forcing him to face the truth of his legacy.
At last, Harry understands: resurrecting Mattie would mean preserving the very system that enslaved the Djinn. So he makes a different choice. He uses his final wish to destroy the talisman system itself—freeing the Djinn and finally freeing himself of his cruel legacy.
