After an ordinary day in Beijing is disrupted by a sudden police raid, an American expat is thrown into a Chinese detention center where language barriers, rigid rules, and isolation force him to adapt fast—or risk losing control of his fate.
SYNOPSIS:
After a routine morning in Beijing, Chance’s life is abruptly upended when police raid his apartment and take him into custody. What begins as confusion quickly escalates into pressure as officers question him, search his space, and uncover evidence that leads to his arrest. Despite attempting to stay composed, Chance realizes he is no longer in control as he’s pulled deeper into a system he doesn’t understand.
At the police station, he undergoes interrogation and processing before being transported to a detention center, where the reality of his situation fully sets in. Stripped of communication, certainty, and familiarity, Chance is forced to adapt quickly—learning the rules of a rigid environment through observation alone. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces and unable to fully communicate, survival becomes his only focus. As night falls, he lies awake under constant light, coming to terms with the gravity of his situation—no timeline, no control, and no one who knows where he is.

This is a very gripping and atmospheric concept. I love the sense of disorientation and loss of control — it pulls you in immediately. The psychological tension and the feeling of being trapped in an unfamiliar system are especially powerful. Strong setup, I’d love to see how it develops. ☺️

Kristina Dukanac Thank you, I really appreciate that. That sense of disorientation and loss of control was something I wanted to capture from the start, so it means a lot that it came through. I’m excited to keep developing it and bringing that tension to life throughout the story.
