SYNOPSIS:

Double Take is a high-concept action thriller about four ordinary professionals who are forced to become extraordinary criminals when a mysterious mastermind kidnaps the people they love.

Jade, a NASA program manager and single mother; Max, a software programmer still grieving the loss of his wife; Blake, an optical and electrical engineer enjoying life with his new bride; and Taylor, a Jet Propulsion Laboratory engineer caring for his diabetic mother, are complete strangers. Within hours, each receives a terrifying ultimatum: a loved one has been abducted, and the only way to keep them alive is to report to an abandoned house in Los Angeles. There they are introduced to a masked criminal known only as "Boss," who reveals that their families will remain hostage until they complete a series of increasingly dangerous assignments.

Chosen for their specialized engineering and security expertise, the four are forced to work as a team to design and execute sophisticated crimes. After Taylor secretly contacts the FBI, Boss brutally executes him to prove that disobedience will be met with deadly consequences. Taylor is immediately replaced by Dave, another JPL engineer whose sister has also been kidnapped, reinforcing Boss's ruthless control over the group.

Their first mission is to rob a heavily protected downtown Los Angeles diamond store. Combining their technical knowledge of lasers, surveillance systems, electronics, programming, and project management, they engineer an ingenious heist using hidden infrared transmitters, remote camera jamming, disguises, motorcycles, and a daring escape through city traffic. Although the robbery succeeds, the team realizes they are becoming exactly what they never wanted to be: professional criminals.

As the assignments continue, the strangers develop into a tightly bonded team united by one goal: saving their families. Trust gradually replaces suspicion, particularly between Jade and Max, whose shared determination and emotional vulnerability lead to an unexpected romance. Together they question the Boss's true motives and search for a way to outsmart the organization controlling their lives.

When the conspiracy finally unravels, Boss is revealed to be Tony, Jade's manipulative ex-husband, who secretly recruited elite engineers to carry out elaborate robberies while hiding behind layers of deception. Jade discovers she has unknowingly provided him with the names of the very experts he would later exploit. Determined to make amends, she turns against Tony and helps bring his criminal operation to an end.

In the aftermath, the hostages are freed, and the surviving team members return to their lives, forever changed. Consumed by guilt, Jade confesses her connection to Tony, causing Max to walk away despite their feelings for one another. Seeking redemption, she anonymously distributes millions of dollars from the stolen fortune to Max, Dave, and Blake, giving each a chance at a new beginning while leaving Tony with nothing but a worthless replica of the priceless diamond he coveted. Months later, Max quietly watches Jade and her son from across a Paris street, suggesting that although trust has been shattered, forgiveness and a second chance may still be possible.
