THE DIVORCE SETTLEMENT
By J. Steven Carr

GENRE: Crime
LOGLINE:

An unstable detective investigates a serial killer that murders recently divorced women.

SYNOPSIS:

The killer watches his victims in various stages of sexual activity; waits until the lover leaves, and then tasers them before bashing their skulls in with a club. Detective Kip Righter is heartbroken about his divorce and “semi-stalks” his wife under the guise of protecting for his kids. Kip gets the case of a serial killer that is murdering recently divorced women. Kip gets enough evidence which leads the killer, a local judge, to fear Kip is too close and frames him for the murders. Kip is arrested, convicted and sent to prison for the murders. Kip’s case is under appeal as Kip sits in prison. The urge to kill is overwhelming and the killer (someone very close to Kip) must do it again. He knows another murder will cast doubt on Kip’s guilt. The killer visits Kip in prison and reveals that he, the judge, is the killer. He tasers the guard and himself. Kip breaks free and is on the run. He cannot go to authorities until he has proven the judge is the killer. Kip sets a trap for the judge using his ex-wife as bait. The judge falls for the trap and attempts to taser Kip’s ex-wife. Kip appears and the judge confesses yet dies before anyone can hear him. Kip is arrested as police converge on him. He finds a way to show that the judge was the real killer.
