About Jared

Jared Carlson was born and raised in Southeast Michigan where he pursued a degree in political science at Oakland University. While earning his bachelor's degree Carlson began to moonlight on local film sets, discovering a passion for the art department- especially prop building. Since 2009 he has worked on feature films, commercials, music videos, and independent shorts, applying his creativity to procuring or manufacturing everything from prop paperwork to miniature robots, and even C4 time bombs.

Jared won his first award from the 2012 Broke Student Film Festival for his short film, "Disorder," which displayed his versatility with its complex costume and production design. Carlson worked on his first feature that same year, building props and assisting with the construction and dressing of sets. Soon after he decided to move West to Los Angeles to attend the New York Film Academy (NYFA) to get his Masters Degree in Filmmaking.

During his time at NYFA, Jared's talent for providing quality production design while operating within a budget became well known in the student body and he worked as a production designer on eleven student shorts during his two years of schooling. He completed his thesis short, "The Citizen" and remains in Burbank, continuing his art department career.

Cherry Pop (2016)
