THE NIIHAU INCIDENT
By Norm Thomas

GENRE: Adventure, Drama, Historical, War
LOGLINE:

The true story of a bizarre chain of events that unfold when a secluded Hawaiian isle is where a Japanese pilot crashes after attacking Pearl Harbor, terrorizing the island and changing the course of American history.

SYNOPSIS:

Protected from the outside world by the island’s owner, the native Hawaiians on the Forbidden Isle of Niihau host a luau for a Japanese pilot who crashes in their midst, unaware of his role in attacking Pearl Harbor. But Niihau cowboys Howard and Ben suspect the menacing reason for the uninvited guest’s arrival and rally the villagers to send him away. Instead, the pilot preys on the loyalties of Niihau’s two Japanese-Americans, conspiring to terrorize and takeover the island for Japan’s Devine Emperor. But when Ben and his wife stand up to the pilot’s brutality, all of Niihau rises to defend itself, killing the pilot and claiming history’s first American battle victory of World War II, and delivering a prized Japanese Zero into U.S. military hands. To many in Washington however, the events of that fateful week half a world away proved that Japanese-Americans could not be trusted. Because of The Niihau Incident, the U.S. government ordered a quarter million Americans who were at least one-sixteenth Japanese be quarantined into prison camps for nearly half a decade.
