Facing the cold reality of a corporate-driven future, an aging land owner must decide between a lucrative urban legacy and preserving the natural sanctuary that holds his most cherished memories.
SYNOPSIS:
The story opens in a sterile, corporate meeting room where Benjamin Watson, a seasoned land owner, stands before a detailed model of a massive, ornate building project. While the project represents a significant professional milestone, the atmosphere is heavy with the impersonal nature of "generic beauty" and corporate progress.
As Benjamin contemplates the blueprints of the future, his mind drifts to the past and the present reality of a specific stretch of woods—a place defined by nature rather than glass and steel. Through a series of poignant internal reflections and auditory "echoes" of his family, the narrative explores the deep emotional connection Benjamin has to this land. He hears the voice of Beth Claypool, reminding him that these woods were a source of happiness and a sanctuary he provided for those he loved.
The conflict culminates in a moment of physical and emotional exhaustion. Benjamin visits the entrance to the woods, appearing out of breath and struggling to maintain his footing. However, the sight of a road sign—and a vision of his future granddaughter questioning if his name is on that sign because of his stewardship—gives him a final burst of energy. Reaffirming his role as a protector of the land rather than just a builder of cities, Benjamin prepares to leave his mark not on a corporate skyline, but on the green world he has chosen to save.
