About Gerry

Gerry O'Brien began his acting career at the world famous Gate Theatre in Dublin. His career now spans over three decades and he has worked successfully across the mediums of theatre, film, television, radio drama and as a professional voice artist.
As a theatre actor he has worked for all the major commercial companies in Ireland and toured extensively throughout the early part of his career. His work encompasses classic and contemporary Irish and international writers. He has appeared in the works of O'Casey, J.M.Synge, W.B.Yeats, John B. Keane, and is equally at home with the works of Shakespeare, Moliere. Gerry has also worked on numerous productions by American contemporary writers such as Don Delillo, Sam Shepard and Jason Wells. Gerry has played practically every theatre in Ireland.
His television career began in the mid seventies in Ireland, appearing in numerous one off dramas and series for the national broadcaster. ‘Sean’ a 13 hour drama based on the autobiographies of Sean O’Casey, ‘Teems of Times’ a series about the early years of Brendan Behan, ‘Strumpet City’ based on the best selling book of the same name and one of the most successful television productions to come out of Ireland, as well as many sitcoms and crime dramas.
On film, he has had the privilege of working opposite some of the greats, from Trevor Howard (‘Light years Away’ dir., Alan Tanner), Peter O’Toole (‘Strumpet City’ dir., Tony Barry, ‘Lassie’, dir., Charles Sturridge), Angela Lansburry (‘The Unexpected Mrs., Pollifax’ dir., Anthony Shaw) to Cate Blanchett (‘Veronica Guerin’ dir., Joel Schumacher) and Johnny Depp (‘Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest’ dir., Gore Verbinski )
Gerry is also an accomplished voice actor with an impressive body of work with Irelands National Radio broadcaster (RTE) and the BBC. He is also a much sought after narrator in the Audio book industry and has over forty titles available. He has just finished recording the ‘Artemis Fowl’ series of books for Penguin Audio. These are soon to be filmed by Harvey Weinstein/Disney production company.
His most recent work includes, ‘After Braveheart’ a two part docudrama for the BBC, an independent short film, ‘Hook Line and Sinker’ which premiers at the Rhode Island festival this year, and ‘Bog Bodies’ a horror movie.
Gerry is represented in Ireland by Lorraine Brennan Management (LBM), in Australia by Michelle Honer at Ignite Elite Management, and in LA by Ray Cavaleri . He currently holds an 01 visa.
