DEADWEIGHT

DEADWEIGHT
By Matthew Yongue

GENRE: Independent, Horror
LOGLINE:

On the night of their tenth wedding anniversary, an unfulfilled woman murders her husband mid-coitus but when she goes to move the body, his corpse refuses to keep quiet.

SYNOPSIS:

After goading his emotionally distant wife into sex on their tenth wedding anniversary, LOUIS is taken aback by his bride's (VERONICA) sudden change in demeanor and taste for much darker sexual practices than they are accustomed to.

VERONICA begs LOUIS for dirty talk and to choke her in the act of love-making, all while putting on a noisy show of it that grabs the attention of a hostile downstairs neighbor.

But VERONICA's sudden appetite for pain and humiliation proves to be a clever ploy when LOUIS goes into cardiac arrest in the middle of sex. He seizes up completely and dies beneath her.

It soon becomes clear that VERONICA poisoned her husband of ten years in an effort to be rid of him for good and embrace an extra-marital affair that she has kept secret for some time.

VERONICA looks to her new lover for assistance in disposing of the fresh corpse. But, when her side-piece does not come through, she instead attempts to move LOUIS by herself.

To make matters worse, LOUIS, although dead, refuses to shut up causing VERONICA to wrestle with reality as well as the dead weight on the bed. And the more noisy the struggle becomes, the more suspicious and curious VERONICA's downstairs neighbor grows.

DEADWEIGHT is THE TELL-TALE HEART meets MALCOLM & MARIE - a theatrical chamber play that explores the weight of guilt and darkness of a crumbling marriage in a heightened, absurd manner.
