VANITY

VANITY
By Matthew Yongue

GENRE: Independent, Drama
LOGLINE:

A vain socialite fights self-reflection and the creeping threat of mental breakdown when a smudge on the mirror interrupts her usual pre-black tie event ritual.

SYNOPSIS:

LUCILLE (30s) traces the outline of her eye with a pencil when she notices it--

A distorting smudge that turns every bit of light it captures into an unrecognizable blur.

She scrubs at it with her finger. Sprays it with every solvent in her cabinet. Scratches at it with her nails. No matter what she tries, the smudge refuses to not only disappear...

It grows, threatening to consume her reflection.

"VANITY" is built upon the idea of a wealthy woman's established facade slowly crumbling beneath the weight of external questions and internal reflection. It is a meditation on the blinding power of philanthropy.

"VANITY" is a micro-budget short film that takes place entirely within a single room, requiring minimal talent (two actors) and resources; perfect for a COVID-19 production landscape.
