SYNOPSIS:

Lower-budget supernatural thriller (limited number of locations, small amount of visual effects). Life looks good for bright young professional MARTIN DUNN. Besides being in a serious relationship with a wonderful girl, he manages to find the perfect roommate and land his dream job - all in the same day. Indeed, things seem perfect. Martin and his new roommate GREY have loads in common. They crave the same snacks and share the same mannerisms. Grey is quiet, responsible and pays his bills promptly. But gradually, Martin glimpses another side of Grey. When one of Martin’s coworkers playfully grabs Martin in a headlock, Grey reacts in a surprisingly aggressive and overprotective manner. On the way home, Martin asks Grey about his behavior but although Grey apologizes for his actions, he does not offer an explanation. Over the next few days, Grey’s behavior becomes increasingly violent. For a while Martin overlooks the strange outbursts but after Grey accosts an innocent repairman, Martin demands an explanation. Faced with eviction, Grey finally caves, revealing to Martin that he is actually Martin's older brother! Martin SCOFFS, informing Grey that he’s an only child but Grey explains to Martin that he's a SHADE; a spectral form of Martin's unborn older brother whose physical form perished during a miscarriage. Grey goes on to explain that while his physical form died, his soul somehow continued to grow and develop from a remote purgatory-like state of being. For reasons he doesn't quite understand, he is here now - in corporeal form - to protect Martin from something terrible - a supernatural, jealous, and very, very dangerous being - something from the same dim place he hails from - something he believes to be stalking Martin. Martin tells Grey he's crazy but as proof, Grey begins citing specific examples: instances of Martin's life that no one but Martin could ever know . . . Fearful of Grey now (and believing him to be completely nuts), Martin gives Grey until the end of the week to move out. Following a conversation with his girlfriend Charlotte, however, Martin decides to give Grey another chance to explain himself – after all, Grey’s thus far proven himself to be a responsible and reliable roommate. But when Martin arrives at the apartment, he finds the place empty. Grey has left. The next morning, on the way to work, Martin finds himself assaulted and pursued by two homeless men. He reports the incident to the police but the men are never found. Over the next few days, Martin’s life becomes increasingly surreal. He has trouble sleeping at night. During the day, he imagines things or suffers paranoid delusions. Charlotte disappears. And there’s that weirdly hostile coworker of his at the office. Desperate to restore his life to normalcy, Martin sets out to find Grey and get some answers. At the train station, Grey decides against leaving town but as he leaves the depot, he finds himself ambushed by the same two men who attacked Martin. Narrowly escaping his assailants, Grey returns to the apartment in time to rescue Martin from yet another of the ghostly hunters. Convinced now that Grey is his brother and that these spectral beings exist, Martin and his phantom sibling set off across town in an effort to learn more about who - or what - wants Martin dead. Gathering a bit here and a snippet there, the two gradually begin to piece together a surreal scenario - one fostered by a secret from the past. Every step of the way, the duo must continue to evade the relentless - and seemingly unkillable - creatures pursing them. As Martin and Grey close in on the truth, the forces of antagonism increase, even as our heroes weaken and tire . . .
