Selected Press: Kevin Lucero Less is ...

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... brilliant, particularly outstanding, displaying charming humor and , fluctuating effortlessly and powerfully between menace, vulnerability, sensuality and humor...a spellbinding effect, stupendous talent, yes he is wonderful...superb acting by the intoxicating-ly volcanic Kevin Lucero Less...he drips sex.”
- Chicago Stage Review

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... a natural as the smart slightly brash but caring American writer...wonderful, with every vocal and physical mannerism down pat, and it's always obvious that his exasperations are laced with love...has proved many times to be a fine actor...skips in with a healthy vivacity, he's engaging and cocky, yet sidesteps the superficial self-regard that some actors allow this character to fall into, Lucero pulls the evening's focus, almost against his will, he makes a real connection...delivers a slippery portrayal, all nail-biting and stutters one moment, steely-eyed and murderously ambitious the next...effervescent brilliant."
- Tucson Weekly

"Kevin Lucero Less ... breathes life into this play."
- Rocky Mountain News

"Kevin Lucero Less ... extraordinary performance."
- Chicago Reader

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... fantastic, played very charismatic-ally."
- Quiet Earth

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... a tour de force, in his own orbit."
- LA Weekly

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... particularly adept at multitasking...he vivaciously tackles the role...gives the character a nice loopy innocence...the last two shows have been unbelievably great and Kevin Lucero Less is a big part of that excellence."
- Time Out Chicago

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... marvelously innovative, and funny, his work gained many laughs...I particularly like his work, anchors the performance...gives a powerful manic performance...laced with sensuality and lust."
- Chicago Critic

"Kevin Lucero Less ... gives the character a strong presence and a romantic edge, not easy to do with a character like this...he swooped up the audience and took it with him...wearing way too much glitter and just the right amount of makeup he pours his heart into a fabulous rendition of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", complete with Toto's howl, his moments are just the multi-roles with great skill, a macho dog owner, ultra-feminine society lady, and an androgynous shrink with distinction, he even managed to walk perfectly in high heeled mules...his is the only character in touch with reality so it worked...gives Clifford many personality traits throughout the play bumbling charm, evil wit, and great intensity, he appears to be a different person with every character he interacts with in the play."
- Arizona Daily Star

"Kevin Lucero Less ... makes his entrance as a complete bumbler, heightening the distance from victim to be and psycho killer with ease, proves as good on stage, as in front of the camera...lovely."
- Tucson Citizen

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... deft, subtle, and exceptionally well-acted...dramatic powerhouse, through glances and gestures."
- AZ Night Buzz

"Kevin Lucero Less ... needs no second guessing, his performance is skillful and exciting, a highlight of an exciting evening."
- Chicago Free Press

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... a comic genius...steals this show."
- Denver Post

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... moving, a complex portrayal."
- Los Angeles Times

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... hilarious, has an ease with comic laced multi characters."
- Westword

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... satisfying."
- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"Kevin Lucero Less ... as Soldier, a performance that initially provides the vigor for the show, when the Soldier enters at a mile a minute making ricochet noises all the way, we're in it, when he becomes vaguely Euro trash and sings, we're not sure, but we'll play along, great character he's a dozen different things, including glimpses of the death and destruction waiting outside through live vocal (and thus gleefully under dramatic) sound effects as performed by Kevin Lucero Less, plus video footage of Soldier as a Max Headroom/Lounge Singer wannabe."
- Que J'ai Reve

"Kevin Lucero Less ... all of this changed the moment the Soldier Kevin Lucero Less came onstage. The phrase "infectious energy" is usually meant as a compliment, but in this case it was simply too much for the other actors. It no longer looked like they were acting. The other thing of note about Mr. Lucero is that he is apparently "gifted" with the skill of making "realistic" noises with his mouth, he spent almost the entire performance as the only mic'd actor, and would continuously imitate guns, bombs, electronics beeps and clicks, small woodland creatures, and all manner of other things. He added a real sense of comic relief that was exactly as necessary as a hole in my head (and about as pleasant). The highly talented Lucero returned in the third act as the same character, except with a wacky German accent. In the final act there is a long video sequence with Lucero as a wacky Max Headroom knockoff. Oh, Mr. Lucero, what will you do next?...he was a strong talent in driving this production out of total shut down and tune out. A number of my friends really liked that actor. In fact, one friend had a neatly mirrored experience of my own, he thought it was pretty dull up until the moment when The Soldier entered, and then he really started to enjoy the production."
- Truth Beauty and Shiny Objects

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... superb at the physical comedy, the mask work, and the character work...Lucero as Pantalone had some great moments of lust and avarice...for this viewer, the soaring character work of Kevin Lucero Less made the evening a smash."
- Clownlink

"Kevin Lucero Less ... ah, the elite deceit by Pantalone, played by the fantastic actor Kevin Lucero Less made the night a joy."
- Evanston Round Table

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... best of all, as Pantalone, dressed in a red robe father of the bride. Especially funny to convulsions, and he runs into them when it comes to money. In fact, he plays several different images, but the gown and mask their staple, and believe that it is the same hero. One time he even has sex with someone else's chest, a true marvel."
- Polish Chicago

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... wonderful, amazing, excellent, most particularly Kevin Lucero Less, who played the randy father, Pantalone was absolutely brilliant...very well acted performance 'Rude Boy' (Kevin Lucero Less) was excellent, very moving...captivating, great...superb, powerful."
- Goldstar

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... outstanding, the acting was spectacular, a talented performance."
- Blockbuster

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... astonishing, stellar...a performance of subtext and seething with anger, he was very good and the anchor."
- Flixter

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... striking, played wonderfully, brims with talent...gives a complex range of emotions that rival anything I have seen from the big names of Hollywood."
- Rotten Tomatoes

"Kevin Lucero Less is ... truly great, impressive distinct characters."
- Chicago Tribune

    Virginia (1998)
Film by Steven Luff (Drama) Actor Set and filmed in Denver, Virginia lifts its story out of the skyscrapers, red-brick houses and mountain skyline of Denver. Nineteen-year-old Charles Sarrison is determined to become a physicist and could care less about anything or anyone else, including his humanitarian mother, who is trying desperately to hold together a failing day-care center for disadvantaged kids. One day Charles begrudgingly takes some day-care kids on a field trip and comes across Virginia Culver, a beautiful young woman whom he has known since high school. She is alone, crying, and trying to conceal an inflamed left cheek. Charles invites her along on the trip, and the two begin a relationship that eventually changes Charles' life in a profound way, when Virginia reveals the violent mysteries of her past. Her secrets teach Charles to appreciate his own good fortune. Virginia's original jazz score mixes the more traditional elements of Wynton Marsalis with the more experimental stylings of Pat Metheny.
