About Max

Born and raised in New York City, I grew up around passionate, artistic, and endlessly curious people, opening myself up to new and challenging forms of communication with an intense focus on intelligence, originality, and psychological sophistication.

Having graduated from the University of Miami with a BA in film and psychology, I was lucky enough to get a job at NBC News right out of college, working as an assistant editor in their long form News Department (Dateline, Today Show, NBC News Specials, etc). While there, I learned an invaluable lesson in corporate politics, as well as how to work on a shared server that extended across every continent, and was lucky enough to be exposed to the type of high-end, professional work may up-and-coming filmmakers could only dream of. That being said, it was experience filled with frustration, as corporate bureaucracy and the old way of doing things took precedence over challenging the status quo and innovation in general. It is here where the experience was most valuable to me, in that I learned where my true passions lie - in having a hand in all facets of a production, being able to understand not only the value of each and every team member, but the ideal workflow and the best ways to treat individuals as we deal with the inevitable creative differences - all with a focus on creative, aesthetic, and intellectual quality over anything else.

Through that experience, I realized I do not want to be an expert on one subject of production, but would rather oversee the entire project from conception to distribution, as I am able to calmly and clearly see others points of view and apply that understanding to communicating with other departments and creative a unified vision for the whole, no matter the size or shape of the team.

Since leaving NBC just over a year ago, I have written, directed, and produced two short films, as well as produced various commercials and other short projects, with crews ranging from 4 people to over 30. Furthermore, due to my background in the editing world, I have a keen sense for how to save time on set, as I can foretell any and all post-production issues that might arise from production complications, and tend to focus on alleviating them so that the post-production process can move as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Due to my broad range of knowledge related to not only crew roles but also how deals are made (I have experience working with people both at the Weinstein Company, where I interned briefly, as well as FilmBuff - the company at the forefront of the digital distribution boom), as well as my passion for not only filmmaking but also the creative process in all of its glorious facets, I think I would be a valuable member of your team and would love to talk more about this project at your earliest convenience.
I can be reached via email at maxjr1150@ or via cell at 646-339-0550. For samples of some of my work, please visit - though please not that it has not been updated too recently.

Thank you very much and looking forward to speaking with all of you you soon.
