I enjoyed GUMP and featured it as one of dozens of films to study while teaching years ago. It is time-oriented and might have appealed more to an audience whose sentimentalism would recall the music and heady feel of that era, but the sheer, raw innocence and emotions portrayed by the character of Forrest Gump far extend beyond any set timeline and had to be one of the most original and empathic portrayals of a simple man with a huge heart. No other film exists that provides such an extensive foray into the preparation of shrimp, either! Of course, PULP FICTION has little competition in its magnetism to hold an audience's attention. Hard call to compare the two. Both films moved me deeply and I never tire watching either one.
