MARON

LOGLINE: Maron is a horror film. Every night, Orderly Terry Burns to death in a vivid, hallucinatory dream. His sleep patterns are bizarre. And one by one, his patients die in the throws of a nightmare. Is a demon stalking the halls? And what does that have to do with Terry?

SYNOPSIS:

Short film - Itzak, a patient is at a Shiva. He asks his daughter whose it is. She tells him "My Father;s" "I'm your father." He replies and thus begins a nightmare from which Itzak will not return. The two nurses on duty discuss full moon fever. One believes, the other doesn't. Terry, an orderly, recounts his vivid dreams of burning to death. His self medicates with pot. It doesn't help. One of the doctor's, who is interested in Nightmares Approaches Terry, but Terry Blows him off. He goes home and falls asleep at exactly 8:15 AM. He awakes at 8:15 PM, unrested and gaunt. He goes to work and another patient dies in a nightmare. Mary, the patient dies in a dark room, murdered by her death husband. The next night, the cycle continues and we discover that one of the nurses is abusing the patients and Terry is turning a blind eye to this. Finally, after his night burning to death, he approaches the doctor for medication the help him sleep. The doctor tells him of a Maron, a demon which we call a night mare. It feeds on fear. Terry takes his prescription and goes him. Regardless of the pills, his sleep is the same. It is revealed that Terry's father burned to death in a mental institution where he had been committed for violent nightmares. He puzzles out that the Maron is there and it wants him. He goes to that doctor's office and waits for it. The maron kills the abusive nurse and is revealed to be the Good nurse in disguise. She comes to Terry and tells him it's time to go. He goes with her. One more time, we see Terry in the chair, being burned to death. He reveals that the maron doesn't feed on fear, but on SIn, and his sin, apathy, is the most wonderful delicacy for her. And that he will have forever to repeat the burning death to please her.
