iPhone movies. Transitioning plays into filmic presentations.

After an entire year of not being able to produce live theatre, I’ve started producing filmic plays (mini movies or visual recordings) of work originally intended for the stage. This is a screenshot of a scene. I shot it is with an iPhone, and one super powered flashlight! I even created a trailer. All with an iPhone 11x Pro.

What Marketing discoveries have you been making?

I was recently on an Industry Panel on Marketing with Theatre Resources Unlimited, and wrote this article shortly after. Please tell me what you think concerning Theatre Marketing... What's changed, what hasn't... <div><br></div><div>https://theatremarketinginsights.tumblr.com/post/64677704750876262...

Do theatre producers really exist?

There's so much about the fabled producer that swoops in and takes on a play and funds it... But it seems elusive. Seems like every playwright is expected to self produce and crowdfund. Any ideas on this dilemma? Anyone out there really accepting plays and looking to produce for playwrights?

Regina Lee

Hi RG, yes, theater producers really exist. However, it may help to narrow down your question. There's a huge difference between a theater producer in Memphis who raises $2000 for a show and a theater...

Regina, thanks. There certainly is. I'm thinking more of how to find the producers that can find the big financing. Not the uncle, or the rich friend, but the person or group of producers that are in...

In the US, the "big financing" is Broadway. Please start by googling "finance a Broadway play" and "staged reading to finance" or "workshop to finance." Often, you have to raise enough money to have a...

Festivals or youtube?

Hello. I've got a four part webseries that I'm trying to decide if festtivals or youtube would be the best place to get eyes on it. Thoughts?

Pippa Hinchley

Both Vera! Actually there are several good web festivals now that don't care when you made your content or whether it's been online already. LA new media fest, lift off festivals...

Vera Brooks

Great! Both it is!. Thanks so much.

Mindy Goldhammer

thanks for the info. It is very helpful. I'll have a script to shop shortly so I'll be watching for the festivals.

RG Madruga

Hey, would love to watch it!

For Playwrights, what member organizations should they join?

I'm working closely with some playwright clients and we are looking at Playwright friendly sites and organizations that would be of value to join. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dramatist guild I know is one... Any others? Thanks in advance!

James Hutchison

There's the Playwright's Center: As a Playwrights’ Center member, you’ll join 1,600+ other playwrights worldwide, of all styles and experience levels. Benefits include exclusive access to our playwrit...

The business of being a Professional Playwright escapes some playwrights

At least that's the impression I get and I know many, many playwrights. Things like what organizations to join, what festivals to submit to, how to meet producers and investors. So the question or comment is this: what's makes a savvy, well rounded professional playwright with a solid future ahead?

LindaAnn Loschiavo

Join the Dramatists Guild, get a good mentor, and hook in with a local theatre company to get your work onstage.

Thanks LindaAnn

Do you mean Vessel Video, as well as streaming platforms like Seeso, Crunchyroll, and go90? These are typically SVOD.
