Vanessa Freeman is a former co-host and producer of Living Dayton, a WDTN 2 lifestyle show airing weekdays at 12noon. Together with co-host Shaun Kraisman, Vanessa helps serve audiences a daily dose of the very best that Dayton and the encompassing Miami Valley has to offer. Covering topics from fashion, entertainment, food, celebrity news, charitable events, and everything in between! Currently, she is an anchor/reporter for News 12 Networks in NYC.
Prior to coming to the Gem City, Vanessa was a general assignment reporter in the Poconos for BRC TV-13. There, she covered everything from grand openings to drug busts. A Baltimore native, Vanessa has a bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Public Relations from Marymount University, which she used to parlay herself into the world of politics, working in Washington, D.C at NBC News and MSNBC.
At NBC she worked on shows such as "Andrea Mitchell Reports" and "Morning Joe". Vanessa also covered the 2008 presidential election and served as a White House field producer with the network pool. As a multimedia journalist, she shot, edited, and produced web pieces for Nightly News online.
In her free time, Vanessa feeds her hunger for the arts, and has been in a number of theater productions from "Grease" to "The Pajama Game", and most recently a professional production of "CATS" as Bombalurina. Vanessa also has a heart for the community and dedicates her time to serving as ambassador and public speaker for UNICEF and a number of organizations promoting breast cancer awareness. Her life motto is “Be the change you want to see”.
Before making the leap into entertainment, Vanessa was a general assignment reporter in the Poconos, covering everything from grand openings, drug busts and national court cases. Prior to that, she worked as a reporter for a local NBC affiliate and served as a Producer and Reporter for Canal Plus, French Television. Vanessa also worked with heavy hitters in the TV world, like Andrea Mitchell, Savannah Guthrie and Chris Mathews, just to name a few. As a production assistant she worked on shows like Andrea Mitchell Reports, Meet the Press and a number of shows on MSNBC. At NBC News Network she was a MMJ and produced and anchored content for the web as well as serving as a White House Field Producer, covering President Barack Obama from his campaign trail, inauguration, and his presidency. Vanessa will soon be launching a non profit media company, geared towards women's empowerment.
