SYNOPSIS:
GLORIA FIELDING, 50, isn't happy. It's not that she still doesn't have still have her blond bombshell looks, or that her home isn't in the right neighborhood, or even that her two careers aren't interesting (one as a children's book author - the other, a secret identity as Lisa Loveletter, the latest erotica hit with HOT WOMEN ROMANCE readers) - it's the fact that she wants to be young again - to be loved...the kind of love you feel when it's new and fresh. The love she found with Syd, her husband, 20+ years ago. The same ass who is trying to sell her house out from underneath her! Her best friends PAM ALLEN, 48, and JUDITH MARTIN, 50, are in the same boat. Married life's a bore. Though none of the ladies see the merit of their own husbands, they can see good points about each others - so why not SWAP THEM before they lose them all together? Gloria, Pam and Judith devise a plan to flirt with each other's extremely competitive husbands until they start to show the attention the ladies seek. In the meantime, Gloria decides to write a fictional account about their "swapping" experience in a series of short stories. Before their plan comes to fruition, the men find the story in HOT WOMAN ROMANCE. Instead of loving husbands on their weekend get-a-way in Palm Springs, the ladies wind up with men bent on revenge and hopped up on Viagra. Then, Gloria's world turns upside down when the truth about her alter ego and the stories she's been writing comes out, alienating everyone. The girls rush back to Palm Springs and other than Jack having a bad scare with a heart attack and a few more tests to undergo, everyone seems to be getting along much better. But Syd's still hell bent on selling the home Gloria loves so Gloria decides to kick him out for good. At the same time, Pam's husband, Miller, a TV anchorman, tells her that he's been offered the job of his career in New York - no place she wants to live. Things go from bad to worse for the ladies. Gloria, who's in total denial of her age, finds out she's going to become a grandmother, then her doctor tells her she's in menopause. Judith's husband, Jack, is further diagnosed with brain cancer, and Pam must decide if she will go with Miller to NYC or set him free. In the end, Gloria and Syd renew their love for one another, and as they stand at Jack's grave holding their grandchild, change is in the air - and it's okay.
