Tejal Desai is an award-winning screenwriter whose dynamic screenplays have been honored with several prestigious awards. In 2004, Tejal was also awarded the most coveted and prestigious screenwriting award, winning the NICHOLL FELLOWSHIP IN SCREENWRITING for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for his comedy script LINDA AND HENRY. Subsequently he was hired by Disney to develop and write a sequel for their successful film PINOCCHIO
His screenplay, COWBOYS & HINDUS, won the 2010 Final Draft Big Break Screenplay competition, selected as the top piece out of morethan 3700 entries. Tejal was honored on stage alongside Aaron Sorkin at Final Draft’s Hall of Fame Awards in October 2010. COWBOYS &HINDUS also won the Cinestory Screenplay Competition in 2004, the Open Door Contest in 2003, and was named a semifinalist at the Sundance Screenwriting Institute in 2001 and 2002.
In 2001, Tejal produced the 35mm feature length drama, ABCD, dealing with the Indo- American experience. The film starred Madhur Jaffrey (Heat and Dust, Vanya on 42nd Street) and premiered at the 43rd London Film Festival and numerous festivals in Bombay, New Delhi, Calcutta, New York City, L.A and Chicago.
ABCD won Best Independent Film and a Special Jury Award at the Houston Film Festival.
The film was picked up for distribution by Eros International and released theatrically in November 2002. Tejal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and has a B.A in film from the SUNY Purchase College of Film. Currently, Tejal is represented by Paradigm Talent Agency in Los Angeles.
