I've met many wonderful people over the course of 30+ years in the entertainment industry. So some of you reading this already know me. Others may have caught one of my presentations or panel discussions at Promax/BDA.

I'm not a celebrity like the stars I promote, so you may not have seen my face. But if you watch TV, I guarantee you've seen my work.

I’ve launched hundreds of dramas, comedies, and reality shows as a TV marketing executive. I approached them all with one objective… do whatever it takes to make people want to watch. That often meant taking chances, breaking the rules. But since I cut my teeth during Fox Broadcasting’s rebellious early days, I was used to paving a new promotional path. At Fox, we took pride in being different. And man, did it pay off.

For example, THAT 70’s SHOW loved our promos so much, it became a part of the show! My idea of shooting the cast walking on plexiglass and jumping on a trampoline was integrated into the regular series for years.

Today, despite the rapidly changing technology that expands choices with how content is delivered and what platforms viewers are using, the task we have as marketers is the same: Create an emotional connection between the product and the viewer. Give them a REASON to watch.

Like Michelangelo said, “Every block of stone has a statue inside it, and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”
