About Jane

Jane Brody, CSA, SAG/AFTRA, AEA is the founder of Jane Brody Casting in Chicago (now Paskal/Rudnicke Casting). Her first book, The Actor’s Business Plan: A Career Guide for the Acting Life will be released Oct 22, 2015 by Bloomsbury Press. Jane tours nationally doing workshops in career-building, Shurtleff audition techniques, and scene exploration using neuroscience and archetype called Superscenes. She has been working for the past 45 years as a coach, teacher, actress, producer, casting director, agent, and stage director. Jane received the Casting Society of America's Best Location Casting award for the film Fargo. As an actress, she performed at such theatres as The Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Drury Lane, Chicago, Los Angeles Actors' Theatre and the Merle Oberon Theatre where she received the Los Angeles Weekly's Best Actress Award. While acting in Los Angeles Jane also served as assistant to Michael Shurtleff and as a private acting coach. In Chicago Jane founded Acting Studio Chicago where she taught for fifteen years. She recently retired from her Associate Professorship in Performance at The Theatre School, Depaul University in Chicago. Prior to that, she was head of undergraduate acting at Louisiana State University. Jane’s second book will give practical exercises for actors and directors developed from neuroscientific research into human behavior. It is tentatively entitled Neuroscience, Archetype, and Stanislavski for Routledge Press in 2016.

Unique traits: As a devoted citizen of the theatre, I suspect that among my less obvious traits are: 1. Ability to sleep for twenty four hours at a time 2. Love of research and libraries 3. Obsession with history 4. My dry wit 5. My love of actors
