On the brink of a violent breakdown, a troubled teen is sent to his shaman great-grandfather for healing, only to inherit the old man's gift and burden when the ritual backfires, forcing the teen to heal others while battling the darkness now consuming him.
SYNOPSIS:
DAVID MORALES is a troubled teen who is on the verge of a violent breakdown. He fantasizes about shooting up high school bullies who regularly torment him, recording his dangerous thoughts in a journal. His mom LORENA finds his journal one morning and races to the school, expecting the worst, but instead removes David from classes and subsequently berates him for contemplating murder. She packs his bags and forces him to leave their house.
They drive off to see his great grandfather, a family shaman who heals close friends and relatives in need. They stay at Lorena's sister and brother in law's home, where David reunites with his two cousins. When David goes to see his great grandfather, he undergoes an intense, psychological ritual that reveals all his deepest, darkest fears which manifest out of a drug induced hallucination. When he finishes, he seems healed until the next morning, when police arrive to report that his great grandfather visited David's school and shot up several students in a homicidal rage before being shot himself.
Wracked with guilt, David finds himself continuing the family tradition by offering healing sesions for fellow high schoolers. He develops friendships with a local mechanic and a know-it-all teen girl, while becoming distant and increasingly agitated with Lorena regarding his newly found abilities. It all culminates with a fight between David's inner demons and stopping an evil presence within his closest family members and friends. By the end, David survives, grows up into an adult, leads healing seminars, and finally helps a young boy who claims a darkness has taken over him.
