SYNOPSIS:

The Return ( Based on true story) a shankha dasgupta film. Since time immemorial, humans from south East Asian coasts have been trafficked through the Malacca canal, mainly for slavery. In modern times, the Bangladesh coast guard and border forces are unable to catch the traffickers red handed, as they’re not allowed to roam freely over the ocean beyond the international borderline. The traffickers work in direct or indirect cooperation with Myanmar and Thai naval forces. AbdurRahman is one such hapless victim of human trafficking. He got handed over to the Rohingyas after being tossed from small boats to bigger ones. He faces extreme torture there. When the Myanmar authorities catch them, his hopes of freedom see some light, but in vain. They get sold to a bigger agent. Another journey to unknown begins on a different boat. Once again the Thai naval ship raises their hope, but the Thai authorities beat up the traffickers and take the boat’s engine with them, keeping these hapless victims literally floating in despair. Some pirates hailing from Indonesia or Andaman’s promise to take them to Malaysia, take them in their speedboat but they end up looting and killing some of them. The victims seem to have lost all rays of hope. Some days later, a group of people who identify themselves belonging to the UN, take them to a lonely island. Just when the victims begin to think that good times are finally knocking on their door, they realize that this island is even bigger a market for slaves. They find people of different origins here, Bangladeshi, Cambodian, Rohingya, even few agents who promised to take them to Malaysia. They met people who couldn’t pay up and are imprisoned here for few years. They found out that they were sold to a bigger agent in exchange of only 2000 Ringgit here. A motley crew of 33 victims gets a chance to get across the Malaysian border in exchange of money with the help of Thai agents. But some get killed due to mine explosion and the agents flee the spot. Malaysian authorities once again catch the victims and take them to a rehabilitation camp. Rahman gets employed as a gardener in the camp with the help of one Dr. Noor. He befriends a Cambodian refugee Elis there. And then the story is different….
