About Daniel

I grew up on Long Island, New York. My mother was a schoolteacher and active in the Civil Rights Movement. She taught me to work to overcome racial stereotypes that affected how I was perceived and how I viewed myself.

One of the most formative events in my life was attending the March on Washington with my mother in 1963. I learned from hearing Martin Luther King’s famous "I Have A Dream" speech that I should measure a person by their character and their actions, rather than the color of their skin.

My family lived in Japan for two years. That experience taught me to observe and learn from another culture and to engage people as individuals. I learned to recognize and overcome stereotypes I had within myself about how I saw the Japanese. I learned to deconstruct stereotypes to break down perceptions that create “Us versus Them” confrontations. I learned to measure a person’s actions as well as their beliefs to determine if there is common ground on which to base a friendship. Tolerance and empathy became part of my moral compass.

After graduation from Marquette University with a BA in Journalism, I volunteered for military service. At the time the Iron Curtain and the Berlin Wall were real barriers. Then, as now, I felt the Bill of Rights, the Four Freedoms, and the Constitution worth protecting. From the results of the Civil Rights Movement, I could see democracy, even as imperfect as it is, as an on-going process worthy of being continued. In the service, I began as a private and left as an officer.

During my service, I reinforced the strong work ethic I learned from my father. I am a self-starter who meets deadlines and can work collaboratively in a multinational/multicultural team. I am not afraid to try because I strive to learn from failure.

I prioritize to meet deadlines. I am a self-starter and enjoy working with people. I have worked within international organizations in Europe, and the Middle East. I have held positions of great trust and responsibility within the United States military and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

I have a MFA from George Mason University in Creative Writing. My BA is Journalism from Marquette University. I earned a Master's in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence Agency. Recently earned an MFAs in Screenwriting and Producing at New York Film Academy.

Well traveled living in Japan for two years, Bosnia, iraq, Horn of Africa, and Europe. As a result my stories are about common people overcoming daunting challenges in conflict zones.

Unique traits: Excellent researcher, like being outdoors, likes travel, interested in writing for TV, feature film, and games. Working in documentary production..
