About Madelyn

Madelyn Ritrosky is co-author of the forthcoming women's fiction novel Stardust & Moonbeams and writer/producer of the short film version -- we're fundraising for post-production right now (online at www.gwworldwide.net/fundraising). She is writing the feature adaptation. Set in the late 1920s, it's all about sexual equality between women and men. The short is about turning the tables on the male gaze we see everywhere and creating a female gaze. It's women behind the camera -- story, visuals, production team -- men in front of it. Our tag line for the short is: "Ladies! Grab the Camera - Change the View - Enjoy the view . . . ." #starmoonfilm

Madelyn has a BA from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, MA from the University of California-Santa Barbara, and PhD from Indiana University in mass communication and culture. Her dissertation examined Loretta Young’s film and television career from the 1920s to the 1960s in the context of women’s shifting opportunities.

As a contributing reporter with Entertainment Magazine, she covers film festivals and is attuned to women filmmakers and others whose work promotes entertaining yet thought-provoking approaches to representing gender, sexuality, and related issues. Interviewees include Loretta Young, Ioan Gruffudd, Ken Kwapis, and Ralph Winter.

Madelyn’s work has appeared in Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Entertainment Today, Encyclopedia of Television, Museum of Broadcast Communications, and Max Yield. Her background includes local video production and college teaching (e.g. Women & Film, Film as Art, and Film & Society). She is a local reproductive justice task force member.

Stardust & Moonbeams, co-written by Dena Huisman, PhD, will be published by BZB Publishing in 2016. Smart, fun, and sexy -- with a serious message about equality -- it is grounded in extensive research. The short play Pants Only, also adapted from the novel, was produced locally.

In addition to her Stardust & Moonbeams, LLC production company, she and her husband own GW Worldwide, LLC, which specializes in new technologies for energy reduction in homes and home-building, greenhouses, and horticultural lighting. www.gwworldwide.net
