assignments in Iraq, Afghanistan, Hurricane Katrina, and the Pentagon. Maintains working
relationships with news agencies through the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Middle East,
and the Baltic States.
Civilian Experience
Shank Media Group (June 2013 – Present)
Owner of film production company that specializes in corporate marketing
through personal story- telling and journalistic approach to interviews and event
coverage. Experienced medical videographer/ photographer able to explain
complicated procedures by combining film, graphics, subject matter expert
interviews, and patient testimonials.
William Penn Career Training Academy (Jan. 2006 – March 2007) Graphic
arts teacher with an inner-city Harrisburg vocational technical school. Taught
grades 9-12 layout/design, photography, video production/editing, sign making,
journalism, and professional ethics.
Shank Sculpture Studio Sept. 1996 – March 2007
Owner of a small business specializing in bronze and marble sculpture. Clients
include President George W. Bush, Governor Tom Ridge, and Secretary of the Air
Force Shelia Widnall. Creator of the PA Farm Show Butter Sculpture from 1995 to
2002.
Military Experience
State Public Affairs Officer, PA National Guard (June 2011–2015)
Special staff officer to the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania. Responsible for
overseeing all Air and Army Guard public affairs offices within the commonwealth
of Pennsylvania. Responsible for all state-level internal communications, external
communications, and media relations for the National Guard.
56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, PA Army National Guard (Sept.
2009 – 2014)
Chief of public affairs for the National Guard’s only Stryker brigade. Personal
advisor to the 56th SBCT Commander and his staff. Supervisor of a team of three
enlisted journalists, photographers, and video producers.
1st Battalion, 108th Field Artillery, U.S. Army (Jan. 2008 – Sept. 2009)
Battalion information operations officer, public affairs officer, and personal staff
advisor to the 1-108 FA Commander prior to and during the 56th Stryker
Brigade’s 2009 deployment to a combat zone north of Baghdad in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. Media liaison and video producer for the U.S. State
Department’s Provincial Reconstruction Team.
28th Infantry Division, PA Army National Guard (March 2007 –
Jan. 2008)
Deputy division public affairs officer assigned to facilitate media operations and
conducted public affairs training for command staff, subject matter experts, and
unit public affairs representatives. Responsible for creation of all division press
releases – print and video.
9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Air Force Reserve
(Sept. 2005-March 2007)
Individual Mobility Augmentee assigned to back-fill the 9th Reconnaissance Wing’s
Chief of Public Affairs during his deployment to Afghanistan in support of
Operation Enduring Freedom.
193rd Special Operations Wing Public Affairs, PA Air National Guard
(Sept. 1995 – Sept. 2005)
Public affairs officer for the Air National Guard’s only special operations wing.
Spokesman for all news and information regarding “Commando Solo” – the
world’s only airborne radio and television broadcast platform.
