About Terrence

Terrence Montgomery is a theatre director, actor, acting coach and teacher in NYC. He has worked as a director, lighting designer, stage technician, stage manager and actor in productions for Music Theater of Wichita, the Goodman Theater in Chicago, in NYC at The Public Theater, Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall and Zankel Hall, at BMCC and Dance Theater Workshop, as well as in theatres in Denmark, Scotland, Russia, Poland, Georgia and Romania. His passion for his craft dates back to his grandmother Elizabeth Montgomery, of the Tony and Olivier award-winning Motley Design Group, who created costumes and sets for many productions in films, in London’s West End, and in NYC on Broadway and at the Metropolitan Opera.

Mr. Montgomery has directed many plays including: Don Juan, The Dining Room, Waiting for Godot, Scenes and Revelations, Camino Real, Alphabetical Order, Twelfth Night, Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Imaginary Invalid, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Comedy of Errors, The Pregnant Pause, The Proposal, The Servant of Two Masters, Antigone, Aria Da Capo, The Bald Soprano, The Laramie Project, Out of the Frying Pan, and Is He Dead? Musicals include: Godspell, Once Upon a Mattress, Side by Side by Sondheim, Working, Three Penny Opera, The Boy Friend, Jacques Brel…, The Fantasticks, Leader of the Pack, Grease, Damn Yankees, Checkmate, Pippin, Legally Blonde the Musical, Wonderful Town, Fiddler on the Roof, and Love’s Labours Lost the Musical.

In addition to these familiar shows, Mr. Montgomery collaborated with Adrian Sahlean, internationally noted Romanian translator of the poem Luceafarul by Mihai Eminescu, on an original dance/theater piece performed at Theater Row Studios in 2005 and in 2008 at the West Side Y, and with Ellis Wood, award-winning founder and choreographer of the modern dance company Wood Dance. He directed the original play, The Problem With English, a modern New York play in the true tradition of farce; he both created and directed The Way, an original play based on verses of the Tao Te Ching; and he wrote the book for an original musical, Away We Go! In 2005, Mr. Montgomery took a group of high school students with whom he co-created the original satire ADHDU - Ed on Meds, and won an honorable mention from Amnesty International at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Mr. Montgomery’s work with students emphasizes original work and the importance of the creative freedom and contribution of young artists.

Film (Drama) Actor In 1983, Oliver Nicholas, at thirteen, is well-poised to enter the precocious teenage world of first-sex, vodka and possible-love in New York City when he is traumatized by the stroke of his housekeeper (and only true maternal figure), a sixty-five-year-old Chilean woman named Aida. What was supposed to be an exhilarating and somewhat fearful rite of passage - diving into the exciting, fast-paced world of first experiences - quickly becomes skewed by an incomprehensible depression, and a house of interior horrors. Surrounded by women - his untraditional, Spanish, photographer mother (more interested in the role of confidante than mother) his sister, a comedic, door-slamming tormentor, marked by her parent's divorce; and Aida, his silver-haired emotional focal point on the verge of death in Lenox Hill Hospital - Oliver struggles to maintain his role as "man of the house" and his sanity. With his best friends, Valerio, a chain-smoking, nunchucking, grandiose artist; and Nick, a cynical,... Written by SC
